Flashing back 2 years in time, Alex and Anna joined the University of Edinburgh. Anna, having danced before in the Netherlands, joined the novice classes, whereas Alex, joined the beginner classes, where he met his former dance partner. A few weeks later, Anna was still partner-less, and when speaking to a friend about her passion for dancing, she mentioned this other friend she met who mentioned ballroom dancing to her. She gave Anna his contact details, and so they decided to try out practising some dancing together. Four hours later, Anna caught Alex up with all the steps she could think of. The partnership was born, so you would think. However, there was one 'minor' hurdle there: Alex already had a partner. This, however, turned out to be no problem for Anna at all, as that day, she stole Alex with her flashy steps and excitement.

From this day onward, they partnered up and tackled their challenges in dancing together. They decided to face their first competition as beginners, travelling down to Nottingham. Being completely intimidated by the standard of dancing, they were also very inspired and motivated to keep working.

Their next competition was the Nothern Championships where they received two 4th places and two 6th places. A major surprise to the two.

A few weeks later, this result got topped with a gold and three silvers in the Liverpool competition!

When the year ended, this was hard to accept for the couple, and so they came up with the idea of taking their dancing abroad. As Anna is Dutch, they participated in the Dutch Open National Championships, where they won a 1st place in D Ballroom, and a 4th in B Latin, which put them to 14th place in the Latin overall!

Moving up a level to Novice in the next academic year, they still kept rising, receiving a 1st place in the first year novice latin, and a 2nd place in the ballroom in the Northern Championships.

Having done so well, the couple decided to move up to Intermediate for the next academic year and to move up to National Amateurs in the Open Championships after the upcoming Dutch Open in June.

To do this, an upgrade in attire is required as these categories are danced in formal competition attire. Think of a tailsuit and a beautiful ballroom dress for the ballroom, and a sparkly shirt and dress in the latin.
