Story

Children and young people in Canterbury and the surrounding areas deserve a brilliant and versatile school that will teach them not only their ABC's, mathematics, and sciences but also how to blossom into people that they can be proud of. The Canterbury New School serves that purpose by allowing children and young people to grow into who it is they want to be.

By donating, you will be helping to support the setup of this school.

What the school has to say:

We are setting up a new independent school that will offer an academically robust education, age relevant, stress free learning and that will develop creativity, resilience and resourcefulness for the 21st Century.

Setting up a school will take a minimum of 6 months from when we secure a site. We therefore anticipate that we will need to run as a parent led initiative for a short period of time from January 2018.

Teachers will facilitate the lessons and it will feel like a school, but to comply with regulations would have to provide only 4 days of traditional lessons (18 hours per week). We are currently imagining that on the 5th day, the children would take part in creative activities, sports, gardening and trips organised by our group of parents and led by local artists, gardeners, ecologists and subject specialists.

An application for setting up as a school will run alongside this initiative and we would hope to get that running as soon as possible.

We are also researching the viability of applying for free school status and would submit an application for this alongside the above. The application process for this takes a minimum of two years.
