I am raising money on behalf of my Nan, she doesn't know i'm doing this for her.
I used to have an pet African Pygmy Hedgehog who she would look after for me. She absolutely loved her, sadly she passed away a few years ago so we decided to surprise her with her own. This is her little baby Archie.
This may sound like a really strange pet for her to have, considering she is not an animal person in the slightest and doesn't have pets. However to say that she loves him would be an understatement, anyone in my family will vouch for this. My grandad is out a lot and so being in the house by herself Archie is her little companion. She will stand in the window cuddling him quite literally talking to him like he's a baby most of the day, e.g telling him to look out the window and see how much of a sunny day it is (she's not going mad she just loves him so much). She sits there talking to him, she will probably kill me for telling everyone that but she does live for that hedgehog, she wouldn't be the same without him. He is the most well looked after animal i've ever met. He's got a little play pen that she puts him in every day (she always tells him he's not allowed his blanket in there because he will just be lazy and go to sleep lol), he's cleaned every day without fail, she will leave the heating on for him if its too cold for him when she goes out, cook chicken specially for him; he comes before Grandad for sure lol. I can't really describe any better than that but she loves him.
A few days ago Nan noticed that he was dragging his back leg behind him and wouldn't put any weight on it. She was panicked and so rung me, I booked a vets appointment and we took him to be examined. She was so upset. They said that it could be broken so he would have to go in again for an x-ray. That cost her £30. We went back Yesterday for him to have his x-ray, it came back that luckily he hadn't broken his leg however had a small lump around the bone on his leg. This cost over £200. At the minute they believe that it could be arthritis- if this is the case he will need medication for the rest of his life and more vet visits, at the minute he has been given two kinds of medicine that he is to have for a week. He then has to go back for another x-ray, which will cost at least another £200 to see if the medication has made it any better. Then I am not 100% sure where we go from there. They said they may look at amputation of his leg if it doesnt get any better, I have no idea how much this will cost if it comes to that- and then treatment after that.
So that is where we are at the minute. I am just hoping to maybe raise some money, I know she won't want to accept it but I know that she is worried about how expensive it is and I couldn't bare to see her go without him. He's only 1 and i'm just trying to do everything I can to help her.
So anything that anyone could donate towards it would be very much appreciated and it just means she will have one less thing to worry about and can concentrate on helping him to get better. Nan does so much for us all and would never hesitate to give any of us anything we needed, so I am just trying to give something back to her to put towards Archies vets fees.
