Story
On Wednesday 3 April Alex will be taking part in a sponsored bike ride to raise funds for his school’s twin school: Chumbegeni, in Tanga, Tanzania. He will be attempting to cycle ten laps of his school ground at Somers Park in 15 minutes.
Teachers from Alex’s school go over to visit this Tanzanian school once as year, to share teaching methods and resources. A group of Tanzanian teachers also paid a recent return visit to Malvern; you can find out more about the partnership at http://somerspark.com/Curriculum/Global-Links-Tanzania-2018
About 680 pupils attend Chumbegeni school, and around 100 of them are orphans. Money raised from the sponsored bike ride will go towards providing ‘uji’ (a type of porridge) for these children.
As Alex is about to leave primary school and he is the last of this families’ generation to do so, we are keen to support this event. We’ve all benefitted from good quality free education and I want the children to realise how fortunate they are to have access to it.
