Story

I leave for Ghana on the 29th June 2018 to spend 4 weeks volunteering, supporting projects in building, medical outreach, sport and education. My voluntary work is fully self-funding and now I am looking to raise funds to provide the materials required for the projects I will be working with.

Recent building projects which volunteers have been involved with vary from repairs to existing classrooms, toilet blocks, installing water boreholes and repairing homes, to laying sewage pipes.

Medical outreach projects visit some of the poorest communities to dress wounds, weigh babies, promote health through education, distribute health resources and make general assessments alongside coordinators and outreach medical staff. These are in high demand, but are often limited to weekly or fortnightly visits due to a lack of supplies.

I have been informed that in the region where I am based, there is only a very small number of teachers. Schools are often left with very few resources and I hope to be able to provide basic classroom materials, and maybe get stuck in with teaching some basic numeracy.

Football is the national sport in Ghana, and whilst I am there I will be organising some sports games. My aim is to provide footballs and sports equipment for the schools and local teams, which are in short supply and high demand.

I just want to reiterate that 100% of your donations will go towards these projects in Ghana. I have a 24kg suitcase which needs filling with supplies to take out with me, on top of the money which will be donated to building and outreach projects. I will of course be happy to return the favour and help out with any odd jobs you have once I am back from Ghana. Thanks xx
