Story

My name is Alex, I am 15 years old, and I am an explorer scout & young leader with the 82nd Chapeltown, & 42nd Thorpe Hesley scout groups. I have been in scouting for 10 years, and I have just achieved what is the dream for every scout.

After a very challenging selection process, and a lot of hard work, I have been selected to attend the WORLD SCOUTING JAMBOREE, which is a unique experience., an adventure beyond anything I can imagine. I will be part of a worldwide gathering of over 60,000 scouts, from different countries, and cultures coming together. I will be learning about their ways of life, traditions, and scouting in their countries. It is to be held over a 3-week period at the Summit Bechtel National Scout Reserve, West Virginia, U.S.A, probably the largest campsite in the world, in July 2019. Part of the criteria for the jamboree is that I fundraise the cost, which is £4000. The cost of my trip also helps pay towards scouts from poorer, under privileged countries to attend the event, who otherwise would not be able to attend, so it is really important that I raise as much as I can, for them, as much as myself. It will be the opportunity of a lifetime for me, helping me to develop as a young person, and allowing me to have an experience that I will never forget. I am looking forward to being able to share my experiences, and new skills that I will learn with the wider scouting group, and I want my experience to have a big impact on other scouts, which will encourage them to follow their dream of attending a world scouting jamboree.
