Story
As some of you may have already heard, on Monday 25th March 2019 there was a fire that broke out at Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre which destroyed enclosures and more sadly took the lives of their 3 giant tortoises, Todd, Thelma and Louise, their beautiful meerkat Bazil and their entire colony of fruit bats.
We as a family we have visited the centre many of times, as well as Alfie having the opportunity of a having a zoo keepers experience there where his love for their animals really grew. Alfie was particularly fond of Todd, so much so that he even named his first tortoise after him. Naturally Alfie was heartbroken after hearing about the news of the fire but strongly felt like he needed to do something to help.
After putting our heads together Alfie has decided that he would like to do a sponsored 9 mile bike ride in The Peaks with his dad. As Alfie has only recently started to ride his bike properly and has only been out on a couple of bike rides, this will no doubt be a challenge. We are yet to choose a date but will update in the near future as to when it will take place.
We appreciate that some of you may have already donated to Gentleshaw however if you havent and feel like supporting Alfie, he will be extremely grateful of any help towards his target. All funds raised will be donated to Gentleshaw in the memory of Todd, Thelma, Louise, Bazil and the bats.
We would also just like to say how proud we are of Alfie, at just 8 years old, he never fails at being kind and considerate to others. He is thoughtful and passionate about animals, no matter how small. #liveandletlive ❤️
