Story
With the help of Camp International who have years of practical experience helping and conducting expeditions all over the world since 2002, I want to help in the small way I can to improve the lives of the local Boma Subutuni people in Tanzania.
I will be traveling to Tanzania for four weeks staying in a tent and living within the local community experiencing their day to day lives and the challenges they face on a day to basis.
I will be assisting with School and housing improvement in Tanga which is a traditional fishing community suffering from high levels of unemployment and locks of local schools, forcing children to walk many miles each day just to get an education. I will be helping by digging classroom foundations, laying bricks, plastering, painting and decorating buildings, making classroom furniture and helping to build and renovate traditional houses for deprived families.
We will also visit Mbokomu to help with more School improvements as the local schools struggle constantly with dilapidated classrooms that are close to collapse, as well as poor or non-existent sanitary conditions to undertake similar work as in Tanga.
We will also help with conservation work in Ndarakwai by expanding waterholes for wildlife, removing invasive plants that are poisonous to wildlife and livestock and taking part in environmental workshops with local children.
This trip is important to me as I have always lived a comfortable life and have not had to worry about the things that we in Britain take for granted like access to clean sanitised water, stable housing and access to a good education. I think it is important for me to take myself out of my comfort zone just for this small amount of time to help those less fortunate and to realise and appreciate how lucky we all are.
