What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

Story

I would like to raise as much as possible for a pair of schools in India! The target I've set is loose so please give as you wish/ if you wish!

Bihar is India's poorest state, with the lowest literacy rate out of all the states of India. Despite now being illegal, caste discrimination dominates the lives of many in this state. Members of the 'dalit' or 'untouchable' community are affected most as they are at the very bottom of the caste system, particularly in rural areas.

The discrimination leads to a greater lack of education, whilst the lack of education leads to a greater barrier to escaping the discrimination. Providing education to the dalit community creates an opportunity to break this loop.

In the town of Bodhgaya, Bihar, Micheal ( a German tourist) met a local man named Murari and they started talking about their shared dream of helping the underprivileged people of the area. In the year of 2009, they started a small scale soup kitchen to feed those who needed it.

The soup kitchen was a great success and soon a primary school of 40 students was established. Over the years the project grew due to the help of donations, enabling many more children to attend daily school and have access to daily meals.

In 2014, the “Flowers of Lakshmi Girls school” in Karma Village was opened as a second school. This is for 20 girls of the untouchable community who live in terrible poverty.

During my visit, I became friends with Murari and became part of the school for the week I was there. The girls school still had a long way to go before being complete and desperately needs funding!

They rely 100% on donations!
