Story
Hi so ive really thought about this before posting...
I am 36 years old and am married with 2 children. I have kidney failure and have been dialysis dependent for 6 years. I attend university to study criminology in the hope that i can secure a good job to support my family. My husband works full time as a nurse and supports me at home with my illness. I have dialysed in hospital for 3 years and completed my training to do my treatment independently. I was fortunate enough to have my mam donate a kidney to me in 2013 however after just 4 short days the transplant failed and i was back on dialysis. I have complications from kidney failure such as muscular dystrophy, anaemia, osteodystrophy, heart regurgitation and tremors. The life expectancy of a dialysis patient is 20-30 years and i would like to fit my treatment into my life rather than fit my life around my treatment. This crowdfunding is to raise money for 'The Kidney Project' who are developing the bioartificial kidney and this funding will allow me to seek treatment in the US to be part of the clinical trial where they are piloting the bioartificial kidney early 2019! This would change my life completely and would allow me to study, work and provide the care and support for my family that they deserve and i dream about providing.
I do not have an awful life, i am blessed to have a wonderful husband, two beautiful children and amazing family and friends i would just love to have the energy and good health to contribute to society. I am mentally able but not physically and this bioartificial kidney would change that. I am eternally grateful to those who have read this far... who can contribute financially... and to those who maybe cant contribute financially but can share this post. I thank you and appreciate your support more than you'll ever know.
