Story

Medusa is a project that aims to help create a safe club space for womxn and marginalised peoples whilst promoting all female/female idetifying line ups and handing proceeds over to charities that support womxn.

The last Medusa event was very successful and we raised over £1000 for the two chosen charities Rape Crisis and Refuge. However, even with ticket fees it was not possible to pay the DJs, and Medusa does not want to rely on the good nature of these womxn to play a gig for free! There is already massive gender imbalances in the electronic music scene and whilst Medusa is trying to address this, it cannot be wholly successful without paying our DJs a decent wage. The gender pay gap is a massive issue and we believe having all female line ups is not enough, we need to support our fellow womxn economically.

The founder of Medusa is a student who cannot afford to cover the costs of the production so we need all the help we can get. Please give as much or as little as you can. Even £1 or 50p will make a difference.

This Medusa event is going to raise money for the charity IMKAAN, IMKAAN is the only UK charity who supports Black and Minority Ethnic women who have been sexually assaulted, and for the NGO future female sounds who teaches womxn and non-binary identifying peoples how to DJ and is going to tour the Middle-East with their workshops. We believe passionately in both these causes and want to raise as much money for them as we can without taking away from paying our DJs a fair living wage for the amazing job they do. Womxn have been marginalised for too long to rely on them to gig for free!!!!
