What is Danestrete Health Centre?

Danestrete Health Centre is a branch from a family of clinics in Hertfordshire. They specialise in Children’s Occupational Therapy. The service offers a child and family centred approach to support children and young people with their independence in all aspects of daily living, such as self-feeding, dressing and participating in play and school activities. The service is available to children and families across Hertfordshire.

They work in partnership with parents/carers and other colleagues to promote positive outcomes for children by using a range of approaches that are individually tailored to each child and family. This may include the provision of an activity plan, specialist equipment, treatment sessions or training to parents, carers and school staff. This is achieved through individual assessments, treatment, advice and multi-agency working.

Why am I raising awareness/money?

My baby cousin Raphael was diagnosed with cerebral palsy three years ago. Cerebral palsy is an umbrella term for a group of symptoms conditions that affect movement and co-ordination. It's caused by a problem with the brain that develops before, during or soon after birth.

Seeing the ways in which my cousin has been able to develop with the help of those working with him at Danestrete Health Centre has inspired me to fundraise. The team’s work has had life-changing effects in improving different areas in his life ranging from mobility to participation and independence at school as well as at home and the community. I would like to raise money to support the Danestrete Health Centre in their excellent work providing transformative treatments for children like Raphael. This will enable the centre purchase items such as switch-adapted toys, soft balance beams, chairs and various games.

What I am doing :

I will be holding a livestream concert on Sunday the 2nd of August at 6:30pm on YouTube to raise awareness and give people the opportunity to donate. The stream will last around an hour and promises to be a stirring and entertaining event. I will be performing a range of covers and original songs with an overall relaxed mood (for the most part…). All of the money raised will go to Danestrete Health Centre. I’m looking forward to seeing you there!
