Story

ALICIA MYERS

In July 2019 Alicia will join 35000 scouts from all over the globe at the 24th World Scout Jamboree to be held at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA. The event will be hosted jointly between Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and the Scout Association of Mexico. The World Scout Jamboree is an international event that brings together the world’s young people. For 10 days, young people work together to find out about each other’s cultures and faiths, learn new skills, take part in adventurous activities and grow as global citizens to tackle some of the biggest issues facing the world today.

The theme of the Jamboree is “Unlock a New World”. Scouts are invited to unlock new adventures, new cultures, and new friendships. Alicia will participate in days of adventure including the world’s longest combined zip wire, white water rafting, shooting activities including tomahawk throwing, rock climbing and abseiling, BMX and mountain biking, skateboarding and much more. On the cultural side the scouts will be learning about the many different cultures and faiths of the scouts attending the jamboree in the interests of creating a new generation of international friendships. They will investigate their environmental impact whilst exploring the Sustainability Challenge Trail.

The Jamboree is an opportunity like no other for Alicia and the other Kent Scouts participants selected. Not only will she get to meet 35,000 people from nearly every country in the world, share her knowledge and experiences whilst working towards greater international understanding but the Jamboree offers her the chance to learn new skills that she can use in other aspects of our lives when she returns home.

Alicia will be fundraising £3495 for her trip, a significant portion of which is used to assist Scouts from Developing Counties to attend the event.

We’re extremely proud of this achievement – a great example of leadership and service. Well done!
