Story
How it started
Back in 2017 I made my first trip to The Village Of Hope. I was the first podiatrist to visit and from the start I was aware that there were many ways that I and my colleagues could help the patients attending the bandaging units. To learn more about the Village of Hope please watch this short video made by my niece. Village of Hope, NewDelhi
What we have acheived
Since my first visit and thanks to your generosity we have been able to purchase better lighting, clinical trolleys and employ an assistant. We have provided footwear and blankets. We have, also, funded almost 100 tricycles for patients. These are not only life changers but they are a great way of taking the weight of their wounded feet, which gives them more chance of healing. We’ve also introduced a software system called Cliniko, so that the staff have a more accurate way of recording the number of patients they see and what they do. Wounds can be photographed and since we can access the system we can monitor wound progress from here in the UK and can offer advice remotely. Please see this short video about Cliniko.Bandaging unit and Cliniko
Plans for our next visit
We plan to provide more tricycles for patients who need to get around but have foot ulceration and/or amputation.
We will be making a FootHealth Education video. This will inform patients how to look after their feet on a daily basis in order to prevent ulceration. It will be shown on a TV screen (kindly donated by Reading Rotary Club) in the waiting area of the clinic.
We will be assessing the vascular supply of each and every patient and teaching staff and paramedic students how to use Doppler ultrasound to do this. This will help staff and patients understand realistic healing times depending on how good or poor the blood supply to the foot is. We hope to be able to leave a couple of Dopplers out there so that the staff can continue to monitor the vascular supply of patients and thoroughly assess new patients to the clinic.
Thank you for your support!

2 years agoFirstly , thank you all for your generosity. Secondly, dressing as a chicken for the day received the most donations. I did this, as planned, on 6th December; the day after I broke my arm (unplanned). My activities were somewhat limited but I did manage a trip to Newbury Retail park and shop in Tescos! Thirdly, your donations have helped to buy 15 tricycles and 150 pairs of trainers. These were given out at a celebration of World Leprosy Day by two of my colleagues who are presently volunteering at The Village of Hope.
