Story
During his prime, Konrad worked at the Chicago O’Hare Airport (Chicago, IL). Unfortunately, after he had started the flight training at the Illinois Aviation Academy, he came down with the floor of the mouth cancer (with metastases to the lingual lymph node). The lack of any health insurance forced him to get back to Poland. His home country was the place where both long and difficult battle with cancer began. He had more than a half of his tongue, floor of the mouth and surrounding tissues removed. After that, he underwent radiotherapy, which turned out to be extremely destructive for his body. The whole treatment and rehabilitation took a couple of years. He did not get back to the USA. Konrad found a job in Poland. He has been working as a logistics expert in the Polish department of American company BorgWarner since then. He got married a few years later and he brings up a daughter with his wife. He also obtained the title of engineer in logistics and a master’s degree in economics.
After years of relative peace, Konrad’s mandible pathologically fractured, which was the consequence of the previously mentioned radiotherapy and radiation sickness. It was necessary to conduct a series of complex operations such as resection and reconstruction of the mandible using the material taken from his own hip, underbelly, tibial bones and thigh.
Konrad has been on sick leave for over a year. He has been constantly rehabilitating in order to recover. Let’s hope everything is moving in the right direction.
This fund-raiser is intended for further rehabilitation, including various sports that will help to get over that difficult treatment as well as the proper diet and filling the gap in the personal budget that has been reduced due to the sick leave. The funds will also contribute to all the costs connected with the commute to the places of treatment and check-ups, necessary medications, supplements and Band-Aids.
Thank you all for your help.
