Story
Up until this year the nearest Cold Weather shelter has been in Wells some twenty miles away so this shelter in Frome will provide a much needed local service.
Frome has recently seen an increase in people sleeping outside and the community has come together to find a solution for the Winter. Thirty Eight volunteers have received training and will assist with our evening drop in where those who need it will receive warm clothing, hot food links to referral agencies and if needed a warm safe bed for the night.
The third night of below zero temperatures can prove fatal for rough sleepers. When this is predicted by the Met office the cold weather shelter in Frome will open.
Although we are supported by a large team of volunteers, there will be costs involved- we need financial support to have a mobile telephone, admin support, room hires for training, petrol costs, publicity and to provide a 'failproof' system which we hope to take forward next year.
