Story

Anguilla is a small island in the Caribbean, a British Territory. There are few resources or opportunities for children with special needs. The Arijah Foundation runs the Blossom Centre to provide education, therapy and support for children with special needs and their families. On September 6th 2017, the Centre was destroyed in Hurricane Irma, along with many toys and resources and the children's new minibus. Many of the children can't speak and have no access to speech therapy.

In May 2018, I volunteered as a Speech and Language Therapist and went to Anguilla to work with the children many of whom had never before had therapy. The Centre is now rehoused in the local Baptist church, but is in need of basic toys such as sand and water play, dolls' house, puzzles etc. They need educational materials such as books, tablets and aps, games and therapy resources to learn from. They need a teacher. Without funding, they can't pay for a teacher to work with the children.

I want to raise £2000 to help them pay a teacher and buy some toys and resources. To do this, I will be walking around the Isle of Wight over 4 days from 27th August. I will walk the 67 miles with my good friend Catherine Cameron Martin and any other friends are welcome to join us for all or part of the walk and also get sponsors. Please sponsor us by donating for our efforts to support the children.

In addition we will be holding a grand draw for a fantastic 4 night luxury holiday in Dubai, more to follow shortly. All funds raised will go directly to the support the children through the Arijah Foundation http://arijah.org/
