Story
Royston Netball Club, established in 1977, has over 80 junior members and 45 senior members, aging from 8 years to 60 years. Due to the success of the club, both on and off the court, we have outgrown our existing training facilities, and as a consequence frustratingly have long waiting lists for those wanting to join the club. We are painfully aware that potential members have gone to Clubs outside of Royston. The Club has five senior teams and four junior teams representing Royston in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire leagues. Matches are played at multiple venues in Stevenage, Ware, Turnford and Cambridge.
Our coaching excellence has junior members selected for Cambridgeshire Netball Academy and Saracens Mavericks Superleague Futures Academy Squad.
For Royston Netball Club to continue this great success, expand to its full potential and support the local community, we have the exciting opportunity to re-locate Royston Netball Club to the Meridian School Site at Garden Walk, Royston.
This joint venture would provide the Club with four floodlit netball courts, and the ability to utilise classroom and changing facilities. It would double the number of netball courts currently available to the Club and allow us to:
• encourage women and girls from a young age into sport with the inherent advantages this brings
• accept new members without the need for waiting lists
• expand both the junior and senior training sessions, accommodating all those on waiting lists
• host tournaments and events
• potentially run our own local schools and clubs league from this base
In order for the Club to make this move, the existing netball courts require upgrading. The works include resurfacing, line painting, provision of fencing and installing floodlights. In partnership with Merdian School a budget of £110,000 has been calculated for all works required.
Royston Netball Club and Meridian School have successfully obtained planning permission for floodlights to the netball courts at the Merdian School Site, allowing use throughout the year, including the winter months.
We are turning to the community, local business`s, club members and their extended families to ask for support.
Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
