Story
This year marks my 10th year with Glaucoma.
For those of you who don't know, Glaucoma is an eye disease also known as the silent eye thief. By the time I suspected anything was wrong, I had already lost 90% of the fibres in my left eye.
I thank my lucky stars for being a patient of Professor Keith Martin. He gives me hope, and all I need to know is research is forever advancing. This is comfort, as Glaucoma is a genetic disorder, which may be passed to my children, and my children's children.
You may have seen my little bags of origami stars at Arts and Craft fairs?
I have been making them since I started Love DnA, my hobby/business. Every packet of stars I make, is sold and 100% of the donation goes towards the research into Glaucoma.
Professor Keith Martin's research work is focused on the mechanisms of visual loss in glaucoma and the development of new treatment approaches. In his laboratory at the Cambridge University Centre for Brain Repair, he is currently developing gene therapy and stem cell techniques to try to prevent visual loss due to glaucoma and ultimately to restore vision in those blind due to the disease.
Currently I am due to embark upon my third operation. I won't lie, feeling nervous is an understatement. I just want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have bought stars from me, and ask if you would once again dig deep into your pockets for those loose change? Those of you who haven't, can I tempt you to support this brilliant cause?
If you email me your address I will send you a packet of stars in June.
Thank you, Alison x
