I've raised £500 to St.Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church, in memory of Joanna(Yianoulla)Christodoulou, wife of the late Fr. Evgenios (Andreas) Christodoulou.

Sadly Joanna (Yianoulla) Christodoulou, wife of the late Fr. Evgenios (Andreas) Christodoulou passed away, on 22nd February 2024. She leaves behind daughter: Alix (Alexandra), a son-in-law: Steve, and 2 Grandchildren: Harvey and Lacey, who she had so much love for.
Her late husband, Fr Evgenios (Andreas) Christodoulou, who passed away in August 2020, worked alongside Fr Damianos at St Katherines Greek Orthodox church.
Fr Damianos and the team really respected and looked out for both my Mum & Dad.When we lost dad, Fr Damianos also regularly kept in touch with mum to see how she was doing.. For this reason i am setting up this page as a way of a ‘Thank you’ for being part of mum and dads life.
Joanna (Yianoulla) was born in Limassol, Cyprus. One of 4 kids.. (was the eldest of 3 girls and had an older brother ) Parents didn’t have very much, but enough to get by. Joanna (Yianoulla) got on well with her parents and siblings!
Met Dad (Fr Evgenios) when she was just 17 years old. Liked dad a lot and they eventually got together in 1955. Married the following year - 11/11/1956 (Poppy Day)
Moved with Andreas to the UK for better work opportunities, in November 1957.Lived all around North London.
Worked in Central London for most of her life as a seamstress / dress maker, for a fashion designer that went by the name of Jean Muir.
Joanna was one of Jean’s best workers. So much so, that when an order was placed for a new dress to be made for Princess Diana, Jean chose Joanna-or as she was known at work: ‘Joan’ to make it! Joanna worked for Jean Muir for many years, in various locations including, Mayfair, Farringdon and from home at times.
Joanna worked hard, but played hard too! Shopping, theatres, restaurants, holidays, city breaks. Perfumes, fake lashes, handbags, the lot! She finally bought a house with Andreas in 1964, which they spent the rest of their lives together in…
Joanna welcomed 2 daughters into her life, but sadly the first one passed away. She was just 11 months old-and it happened 2 days before her 1st birthday.
This affected Joanna very badly-as you can imagine! Years went by and Joanna just wasn’t getting pregnant… Then all of a sudden…..Great news!!
Daughter Alexandra (Alix), made an appearance a few years later and certainly kept her on her toes! Alix’s teenage years brought a fair few arguments between them…..
Joanna just couldn’t understand the sort of life Alix wanted to lead… so this lead Alix to rebel…It wasn’t until Alix entered her 20’s that mum and daughter started getting on again….
For a short period of time, Joanna ran an Off Licence with Andreas in North London. But her seamstress and dress making days were far from over and Joanna regularly kept herself busy with various people’s clothing alternations, as a side line.
Joanna was elated when Alix finally found ‘the one’ to settle down with-and she absolutely loved Steve!!
However, she found it quite tough when Alix finally left the family home in London, to start her new life in Essex with Steve… Alix kept intouch though. Numerous times per day by phone and weekly visits and this made their bond stronger…
Joanna got even more excited when she finally became a Grandma, or ‘Yiayia’ as known in Greek..She supported Alix massively with raising and looking after Harvey and Lacey and the bond she had with both her grandkids was simply beautiful!!
Joanna regularly had the grandkids stay over and their little Sainsburys shopping trips, and walks to the park will always be fondly remembered. As will the laughter and love, that was always present in her home.! Will be sadly missed ❤️❤️❤️’..
Dad’s funeral was naturally held at St Katherines, and mum’s will be too.
