Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page and hopefully attending our play-reading.
Our play is a personal story about living with and alongside cognitive decline. Having watched loved ones be treated like they’ve done something wrong or they've said something stupid, if they don’t know the date or who the Prime Minister is - then punishing themselves for it when they make these 'mistakes', profoundly affected us. We wanted to write about the confusion, frustration and pain - and the moments of humour and joy shared by experiencers and carers alike. We also wanted to reflect on some of the incredible work we saw at dementia support groups, where not knowing the date just did not matter. Where experiencers could be in the present and enjoy some agency over their own lives and where their hardworking carers could find a moment of respite.
All This About is for everyone everywhere, who find themselves affected by dementia.
Thank you to the incredible actors who have offered up so much of their valuable time, to everyone at Nimax and the Apollo Theatre for giving us the space to share our work and to Alzheimer’s Research UK for their early support through the Inspire Fund. Also thank you to all of you and our collaborators & contributors. Without your immense support and valuable sharing of personal stories and memories, we wouldn't be where we are now.
Any money donated to this page is gratefully received and will be divided equally between our two partnering charities, Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK. Both these charities provide a lifeline to so many people. Their groundbreaking research, building awareness, fund-raising and support for families, provides a beacon of hope on a very difficult journey.
We hope you enjoy the reading and our aim is to take our work further on stage and screen. If you would like to get in touch with us regarding collaboration and support, either financial, practical or artistic, please do reach out via email at:
