Story
Alley Daley is 21 years old, they identify as non-binary, they have autism and they live with several chronic illnesses including ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) and EDS (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). After a riding accident 4 years ago they became ill with a mystery illness which was later diagnosed as ME in October 2012.
They have suffered from EDS their entire lives but after they lost muscle tone (spent May-October 2012 80% bedbound and then January- May 2013 completely bedbound) their symptoms got much worse.
Their current wheelchair is unsuitable. It is very old, parts are missing, the batteries are shot and it will cost more to fix it than it is worth. They are basically housebound due to being unable to sit up for long at all (their new wheelchair would have reclining features meaning they could leave the house more often). They have had to defer Uni for lack of a suitable chair plus their back and neck are in agony after using their current wheelchair as it has no suitable cushioning/support.
Earlier this year they brought a more suitable wheelchair second hand but then it malfunctioned- the joystick got stuck in the forwards position- when they were getting off the bus and as a result they were rammed into the front of the bus breaking their ankle in the process. They returned the wheelchair to the person they had brought it from but when it couldn't be repaired they had no choice but to go back to their old unsuitable one. This accident has caused serious PTSD for them and leaving the house literally fills them with dread.
They have a wheelchair services referral but even if WS do provide one, it'll be more basic than they need and they'll need to partially fund anyway.
