Story
I am Ally, an AAC veteran , having left the military just over 18 months ago after a 24 year career, I have been helped by the Rawthey project over the past year, and it has really made a difference. And to try and repay a little back I am going to take part in the Ride London 100 this Sunday, and I am aiming to raise £500. I would really appreciate if you can spare some time to read the information below which explains what the Rawthey project is all about, and if you can make a donate no matter how small, it is all going to a very worthy cause, which is making a huge difference to the lives of Veterans in times of need. I will try and do a quick update every 10 miles with a picture of me and moo moo at the mile markers.
The Rawthey Project CIC, is based in Sedbergh, established in 2014 for the benefit of the community and in particular (without limitation) the Armed Forces, Emergency Services and NHS communities. It aims to support the most disadvantaged and vulnerable in our communities through a structure in which volunteers connect with beneficiaries who have become disadvantaged or vulnerable. With the permission of the beneficiary, our peer mentors, who are supported by specialist clinical and social care teams, develop, coordinate & deliver a structured multi-agency framework led by care professionals.
Residential recovery, which is delivered by the Tom Thacker Residential Recovery Course, provides beneficiaries with a 3 months, fully funded, residential course that offers them the opportunity to rapidly change their environment and re-evaluate their situation with the support of peers and clinical professionals. All support is led and guided by a trained and qualified Clinical Psychologist and/or other care professional. Over the next 4 years the aim is to assist a further 96 of our most vulnerable veterans to complete the course.
Supported by peer mentors, the challenges of accommodation, transport & administration are overcome whilst concurrently liaising with employers to ensure that care needs are met alongside what are often robust employer HR protocols.
