Story
3 Peaks, 3 Countries, 24 Hours - a challenge like no other
5 years ago, members from Alnwick Young Farmers completed the National 3 Peak Challenge - climbing the tallest mountain in each of Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) & Wales (Snowdon), all in 24 hours! In July 2021, we are set to do it again - walking 23 miles, climbing 10,052ft and been driven 462 miles!
Last time round we raised £5,016 and we would love to smash that this year. Training has already started, following current guidelines, and we're all raring to get out and complete it after the past year everyone has gone through.
Young Farmers, like all groups and activities, came to an immediate stop when lockdown was first implemented and we feel it would be a fantastic way to get back up and running and an even better opportunity to give back to charities that have also suffered so greatly during the pandemic.
We will be raising money for two charities, Forage Aid and the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
Forage Aid are an agricultural charity that 'coordinate the goodwill of the agricultural community to help UK farms hit by extreme weather events or Acts of God'. They organise the voluntary supply and delivery of much needed forage and/or bedding for livestock when disasters strike and farmers are in need of aid.
The GNAAS has a fleet of 3 helicopters that provide pioneering pre-hospital care to the scene and rescue hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year across the North-East, Cumbria & North Yorkshire. Their service is invaluable to those who need it, enabling them to receive treatment and get to the hospital far quicker than via roads, particularly from remote locations, meaning a far better chance of survival. The service is not NHS funded and they are 100% reliant on public donations to survive.
All donations are hugely appreciated and will make such a difference for the two charities. Thank you so much for supporting us - that is what will keep us going when we're walking at 4am!
