Story
Lu4 Creative will focus on working with 5 sheltered housing sites in Luton , engaging residents who feel socially isolated, deskilled and disconnected within the community. These therapeutic felt making workshops aims to invigorate participants wellbeing, rekindle hidden talents within a friendly, relaxed communal setting.
Facilitated by professional Artists, participants, working collectively within a team, will be taught modified felt making techniques which will eventually inspire them to generate their own designs . These designs will be showcased at Wardown Museum, Luton as part of Wardown museum makers initiative.
Artists will adapt and enhance their skills through simplified demonstrations , using interactive resources to encourage users to adapt , develop and discover new artistic skills. skills.
And in turn, working within this setting that participates will uplift their anxieties' through creative pursuits. Which hopefully could eliminate or relieve loneliness, isolation and frustration.
The idea for this project derived from an exhibition in Luton by HIVE, art organization.
Alva Wilson, Milliner/Visual artist who exhibited included one of the hand felted murals produced by sheltered housing residents from, Acworth House, Acworth Crescent Leagrave. This was part of a pilot project , similar to others Alva's done in Luton.
After which, residents and potential buyers wanted to know weather this was an ongoing project and that's how LU4 Creative developed.
Lastly, Lu4 Creative aims to inspire, motivate and uplift creatively within the sheltered housing community in Luton, consistently. Enhancing ethical, eco-friendly, sustainable practices. Promoting diversity, equality and culture.
