Story
I am going to volunteer at an orphanage in Tanzania in October. It is home to 31 children of varying ages, many have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and have been in the orphanage since being babies as they have no family for support. With little or no chance of being fostered or adopted they are likely to remain at the orphanage until they become adults. As a charity which is struggling to make ends meet there are only two members of staff and I am going to help with teaching some of the smaller children and mentoring the older children who lack adult support and guidance. The children desperately need what we would consider to be the most basic things; clothes, knickers, socks and shoes. Educational supplies; notebooks, pens, pencils and art supplies. Toiletries; toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and shampoo.
The orphanage is also hoping to send 6 of the older children to school in the new year to improve their life chances when the eventually leave but as education has to be paid for this will not happen unless they can raise $600 for school fees ($100 per child).
I am hoping that with your generous support we will be able to help with some of these things. I'm going to use my baggage allowance to take some clothes, stationary and toiletries so donations of these would also be gratefully received.
Obviously I will be meeting all my own costs, flights, accommodation, food etc. so anything raised will go directly to support the children.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
