Story

My little puppy Bailey is 16 weeks old. He came from really tough conditions and we saved him from a devastating household.

He has been fighting a skin problem since he was 8 weeks old. This has been ongoiing and it is at a stage where he is very unwell and the vets cannot treat him any longer. He has been referred to a specialist dermatologist at the Queen Mother Hospital for small animals. The expected cost is at least £1000 for treatment. When I got him we got him pet insurance. The pet insurance is an absolute nightmare and refused to cover his condition. Their reasoning behind this is that he had a rash when we changed his food when we got him, and dermodex (his condition) also presents itself as a rash. They are saying these are two closely linked despite the vet clarifying to them numerous times that they are two very different diagnoses. We cannot afford the specialist treatment and without this he will not get better. He cannot survive with this condition that doesn't allow him to enjoy his walks any longer or even have a wee. He needs to be seen and our insurance will not cover it. The treatment plan can range from £1000 to £4000 depending on the course of action they chose to take. The initial £1000 will allow him to have his first consultation and tests so that we know how to proceed further.

Bailey has severe demodectic mange which is usually very treatable. Each puppy is born with this mite. Usually the immune system keeps these mites under control however his immune system is not strong enough to keep it under control. As a result, they have over grown and started to eat his skin. The vets have done all they can do and only a specialist can fix it.Any money towards his treatment would be greatly appreciated and avoid him having to be put down if he cant get this under control. He is my absolute baby and one of the best things in my life. Any donations or advice would be absolutely appreciated.
