Story

Alyssa was born 11 weeks premature and during birth suffered a lack of oxygen which caused her to be born with Cerebral Palsy. Whilst Alyssa is semi-mobile, she is unable to walk without a walker and the prognosis is that she would need a walker and wheelchair all her life.

Recently, there has been a lot of press around the SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) operation which numerous children have had with great success and either made their condition a lot better or enabled them to walk unaided following intense physio programmes. Unfortunately, this operation is not funded by the NHS and Parents are having to fund this themselves. We are lucky and are able to have this operation in the town we live in (Nottingham) - you can find more information at www.cerebralpalsy.org.uk/selective-dorsal-rhizotomy.html

Our little girl is so determined to be independent and with the SDR it would help with her spacticity, to relax her muscle tension and move like any other typical child. Everyday, when Alyssa sees her older brother Matthew or other children running around and moving freely you can see her little face lighting up wishing she could join in and play catch with them or hide and seek. Despite her physical challenges Alyssa is the most endearing, loving, stubborn, nosy, adorable and very happy little girl who has not signed up for this and deserves a chance in experiencing that independence along with other children.

Any funds raised above the target will be donated to the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA).

Thank You!
