Story

The Alyth Makers Collective is an exciting new venture designed to bring together artists, makers and craftspeople working in all sorts of different media.

One part of the project is the Alyth Makers’ Space, which will provide the perfect space for the talented people of our area to create, share ideas, swap skills and exhibit their work.

Located right in the centre of town, we plan for the premises to become a hub where artists, craftspeople and makers can meet and showcase their work.

The space will also be used to encourage visitors to attend a variety of workshops led by local tutors who are keen to share their skills and pass on age old traditions in craft and making. This creative hub will open up so many opportunities for learning, sharing and forging friendships in a safe and inclusive environment.

The Alyth Makers Collective and makers’ space will be instrumental in ensuring Alyth is on the map as a creative centre and in time we hope that the town will become a tourist destination for those interested in arts and crafts. Visitors can get involved and take their creative experience away with them whilst also sampling some of the other treats Alyth has to offer in the town.

The money we raise from this Just Giving campaign will go a long way to making sure that the Makers Collective can be established as a successful enterprise and that the premises can remain operational for months to come. Funds raised will be used towards a myriad of things including, leasing of premises, utility bills, advertising expenses etc.

But the physical space is only one aspect of the project – our over-riding aim is to bring together the talented makers, artists and craftspeople into a supportive and creative group, putting Alyth on the map as a centre for creativity. Following on from the buzz created from our launch event, we will be developing a business plan to take the collective forward, spreading the word to artists and makers who would like to become involved and to visitors who would like to join the workshops and creative learning experiences.

We currently have over 30 local artists and makers involved and that list is growing daily! The collective is certainly proving very popular.

We hope the Alyth Makers Collective will eventually become self-funding and are incredibly grateful for any help you can give us to get this exciting project off the ground.
