Story

I will be travelling to Jaipur in India for 3 weeks in July, in order to volunteer with street children and young women with NGO Sankalp Volunteer Society.

For one part of the trip, I will be volunteering with street children. The NGO runs a school for street children located in the needier neighbourhoods of Jaipur. These children are able to receive a free education, materials, and uniforms by attending the school daily. Along with a local Indian teacher, I will be teaching the children basic educational skills such as English, math, reading, and writing; while also offering a structure based day involving etiquette norms and life skills.

For the other part of the trip, I will be working on a women empowerment program, volunteering to positively affect the lives of young women and girls in the rural areas of India. I will be teaching young women communication skills, basic skills for their future career or educational paths, computer skills, along with many other encouraging lessons. The aim is to build the confidence of the young women, and to change the outlook on life for growing girls in a society that is lacking the understanding of the equal importance of a girl's value in life.

Sankalp Volunteer Society is a leading charity in India working with and for underprivileged children and women for nearly 12 decades. It is registered non-profit since 1994 under the society registration act of India. More info about the NGO here: https://volunteersindia.org/.

I will be funding the trip myself, so I am hoping to raise some money that I can put towards the costs. I will be paying a fee to the NGO, plus travel etc. In total, I estimate I will need around £500 (for travel, accommodation, NGO application fees), without personal costs (such as spending money etc, which I am not including of course).

If you could spare any amount (big or small), I would be extremely grateful! :)
