Story
We are a group of friends and family to the wonderful Claire and would like to raise as much money as possible to help her through her cancer treatment.
In September this year (2018), Claire was diagnosed with breast cancer and a few weeks later she had a mastectomy. She is now waiting to have more cancer removed from her lymph nodes and will then need chemotherapy and radiotherapy over the next 9-12 months.Claire is a single mum to her beautiful daughters, Imogen and Olivia. They are all devastated by this news and are struggling to cope with the enormity of what the next year is going to bring.
Financially Claire and the girls are under huge strain as she has had to leave her full-time job as a teacher and will receive the pittance of statutory sick pay until April. After that she won’t be entitled to anything. The stress and worry of their financial situation is causing Claire and her girls sleepless nights and ultimately there is the practical implication of just how she is going to cope financially through this time.
Claire’s backstory - Claire (46) has been a single mum for 10 years. 5 years ago she set herself a hugely ambitious goal to train to become a qualified English teacher.
It’s been a challenging journey. She’s had to complete a degree in English, went on to do a Masters, and finally accomplished the lot achieving a 2.1 in her Masters and a distinction in her PGCE! This was all while working part-time as a cleaner and raising her two daughters.
Claire secured a fantastic job teaching English at a well-known grammar school in Canterbury, she had achieved her goal against all odds and moved herself and her two girls to Canterbury and settled them into new schools in September. She has worked SO incredibly hard these last few years, all her friends and family were over the moon for her when she started her new job that she was delighted about and so enthusiastic to begin.
Just ten days into her job she found out that the lump was cancerous.
