Story

Lilwen is a gorgeous and funny 8 year old girl. She has been bravely fighting ependymoma a (cancerous Brain tumour), since the age of 3. Since being diagnosed she has gone through brutal brain surgeries, proton therapy, chemotherapy, but it still keeps coming back and she is now fighting this cruel disease for the third time.
The doctors have told the family that she has one last shot of treatment, as her brain and body has undergone too much treatment and damage. She will receive yet more brain surgery followed by a second lot of radiotherapy.
After numerous discussions with experts it has been agreed that the best option to protect her brain as much as possible is more proton therapy. The reasons for this include the fact the tumour is close to her brainstem, she has ready received radiotherapy to that area and proton is a gentler form of radiotherapy, ensuring healthy brain tissue is protected as much possible.
Unfortunately, the NHS are unable to fund proton therapy for Lilwen, only offering conventional radiotherapy which will cause harsh side effects which will affect the quality of Lilwen’s life. The family are looking at private proton options to ensure their daughter has the best treatment possible and the best chance in life.
