Story
As a parent to boys with ASN , this is a real life problem for me .
What I have found throughout my journey is that if your child isn't 'normal ' and thriving in school then there is very little support in mainstream schools . All of my boys attended Carmunnock Primary School, its a great school in a lovely village and holds a very special place in my heart as my husband and his siblings also attended .
In August of last year my youngest son Jack started carmunnock primary in P1 , with his diagnosis of Autism and ASN. The school bent over backwards and went above and beyond to try and support his needs and make him fit in as much as they could. But without the support and funding to give him a full day of schooling, not to mention our constant input with parent power, all they could manage was a half day.
Jack was entitled to a full day of schooling like every other kid. Due to the lack of support the school was given, the school couldn't increase his time. It left us with the heart breaking decision to break my boys up and they would attend different schools, after being told that with all the right strategies put in place that jack would cope in mainstream school with his older brother Ashton . It was heartbreaking as a family, but knew it was right for Jack .
I was told from a professional that the kind of help and support I was looking for, I should turn to local charities to fundraise , hence the reason I am doing this.
If I could help and prevent this happening to one other child then it would be very much worth while.
This is why I have decided to fundraise for Carmunnock Primary School as their hands are very much tied in this area. I am running my first ever marathon in Stirling on Sunday 21st May, as I love to run.I thought if I can raise money as well as challenging myself then that's even better.
Any kind of donation is very much appreciated and would make such a difference for our kids who need that little bit extra . Thank you
