Story

My mum, much like many mums puts aside her own needs to be there and do for everyone else. Out of the blue last September she began having pain when she ate and eventually went off food. It took from September 2016 to February 2017 to get to the right doctor after many tests and scans. Here she was given a Whipples Procedure to remove a what they believed, could be, a cancerous tumour. By early March out fears were confirmed and chemotherapy was her next step. Hoping that it was caught in time and with a plan to get medicated, we all thought we were on the right path. However this was not the case, there is only one kind of chemo for Pancreatic Cancer and my mum who already suffers from epilepsy and several other allergies, now proved to have bad reactions to this treatment. Following each treatment she ends up with another infection and a period of time in hospital. The doctors have reduced the dosage multiple times and added various other injections and antibiotics to try and combat hospitalisation but they have not yet figured a way to get her to complete even one cycle of her original 6 month plan. So here we stand 5 months in and not knowing when she will see an end to treatment or if the remaining tumour has even been effected my the chemotherapy at all. We live in hope and pray for every review date that some good news will come our way. One thing that keeps my mum strong is the thought that when she is feeling healthy again she wants to take a trip to see the Northern Lights. It has always been a dream of hers to witness Aurora Borealis, but now it has become her focus. To fight on for not just her family and her own future but to have the chance to do things she wouldn't have done for herself before. She is not alone in her struggle and we as a family fight by her side daily and would love for her to know she is able to achieve a dream once she is given the all clear! If there is anybody out there who can help my mum to smile and fight on, THANK YOU xo
