Story

I am training to be a Social Worker in September 2019 at York University. I have a slight difficulty with funding my living costs and the NHS bursary just about covers paying for my tuition fees. This opportunity would give me the best chance to develop my skills and to extend my experience in various sectors learning how to confidently offer support and guidance to people in need. I am a dedicated individual who is passionate about supporting people from various disadvantaged backgrounds, and working closely with the homeless, and the difficulties they face.]

Coming from a disadvantaged background myself I am unable to be funded by family members. It's just me on this journey. A girl wanting to make a difference to other peoples lives. To reach out and actually care for those in need. Working long hours as a Support Worker does not give enough money to save in advance for this full-time course. I am dedicated and passionate to try my best to raise the funds though. I have a heart for those in need, in poverty and on the streets. My work and volunteering experiences involve supporting adults with mental health issues and Autism to live an independent life. I have experienced first hand the struggles with funding and transitioning for people with mental health issues. I want to be the support network to put preventative measures in place to offer support and guidance for those in need.

I have previous experience with those on the street, seeing and hearing first hand the impact the social system has on individuals in need and I would love to be able to put preventative measures in place earlier on to prevent crisis points I have gained awareness of human trafficking and the struggles of victims coming forward and the judgement they feel. As well as the impact and struggles of finding work placements have on people, or scribbling to manage finances through budgeting. I have links within Lancashire and have worked closely with various organisations. My plan is to qualify and help as much people as I can, through listening, caring and understanding people.

I'm really in need of help to fund this course and any help would be beneficial. The course I want to do offers a placement in Uganda to work with those in need, which is beneficial to going further afield to help others.

Any help is appreciated.

Kind regards

Amanda
