Story
It's a wonderful and blessed thing, the thought of my daughter Amaya becoming a mum. Amaya and Paddys new baby is expected at the beginning of December 2018.
For those who know us, you will also know that in 2000 Amaya had Hodgkins Disease. A genetic cancer that is brought on by glandular fever if you carry the gene.
While Hodgkins is one of the most curable cancers, it also involves long and arduous treatments of chemo and in Amayas case... A stem cell transplant. Had this not have worked she would not be here to tell the tale and bless us with a forthcoming baby.
We have no way of telling if their baby will carry that gene. Its 50/50. To add to that, 1 in 4 people get glandular fever at some time in their lives, mostly in thier early and teenage years. The chances of the baby getting Hodgkins Disease if it gets glandular fever and has the gene are currently sitting at around 1 in 8. But that research is in its early stages and is inconclusive.
Therefore, to ensure the ongoing health of their child should the worst happen, we need Umbilical Cell Extraction and Storage. We feel that this is not an option, it is something that we have to do. . Amaya has registered with Cells4life and they now has to find over £2300 for this procedure.
We are looking to raise £500 towards this cost and I hope that those who can afford will consider making a small donation towards this cost. For those who would have bought a baby present.... A donation is the best present you can give.
We want our baby to have a long, happy and positive life. This proceedure is our babies life insurance. Thank you
