Story
On Friday 24th May Amy, like many hundreds of children that day, got off her school bus with her friends and brothers and went to cross the road yard from home. She does this every day and has done so since starting middle school. This day was different though - as Amy didn't make it across the road and yards from her front door step - she was hit by a car. We don't know why this happened - perhaps we never will - it makes no difference and is as devastating for the driver as it is for Amy's family. The important focus is to heal and move forwards the best way everyone can.
Amy sustained multiple fractures including to her spine and skull, remarkably, she has been awoken from her 6 day induced coma smiling and communicating.
Amy's parents wish to find a way to say thank you for the specialist care she received.
Members of Amy's local community also wish to fundraise for her should she need any additional support to aid her recovery or if this is not required then some nice treats for the family when she is better.
Monies will be split 3 ways:
1. Acorn House provided vital accommodation for Amy's family whilst she was an inpatient in the intensive care unit. It costs £30 to run a room for one night - this is offered free of charge to families but funded by charitable donations. More information can be found at: https://www.sickchildrenstrust.org/our_houses/Acorn_House/index.html
2. The team at Addenbrookes are trying to raise enough funds for two children's ambulances - effectively an intensive care on wheels. Quick access to specialist services was vital to Amy's recovery so we would like to support this fundraising venture. Part of the funds raised will go towards this. 3. It is unclear at the moment if Amy will need any long term support, she is making such good progress but there may be things she needs in the future to aid her recovery.
