Story

After a long process and three attempts at IVF, in March 2016 Ryan and I were delighted that our most recent attempt had been successful and that I was pregnant. Initial scans were positive so at our twenty week scan, although apprehensive, we were more concerned about avoiding seeing whether we were expecting a boy or a girl! When the sonographer told us that there seemed to be some fluid around the baby's organs a very real fear gripped us although nothing could have prepared us for the news we were about to receive. We were sent to the Fetal Medicine Unit at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy and it was here, following another scan, that we were told our baby had Hydrops, an accumulation of fluid, in our case caused by our baby's lungs failing to develop, and that it was most likely that he or she would die in the womb. The following months involved numerous appointments and scans as we chose to continue with the pregnancy with the faith that miracles can happen. We found out that we were having a little girl, and supported by the incredible team led by Dr Tydeman, we had the opportunity to build a relationship with her in the precious weeks that followed before sadly, eight weeks later, our daughter Grace was stillborn on September 5th. Throughout this devastating time our lifeline became the team in the Fetal Medicine Unit and it is impossible to explain the impact they have had on our lives. As a result of this care, we would love to raise money to donate to the Unit in order for them to continue to support couples and families who need additional support through their pregnancies and this is the purpose of our Just Giving page, set up in the name of our Amazing Grace.
