Story

I'm raising £1000 for a community project - The Daisy Ring Bus CIC

As some of you know, my daughter Scarlett has recently been treated for cancer, Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Travelling as we did to Southampton from the Isle of Wight, sometimes three times a week, wasn't just costly, but debilitating. And so we were delighted to discover the Daisy Bus, which takes patients from the Red Jet to Southampton Hospital and back. Free.

For those who are undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or radiotherapy, a public bus is an absolute no no. And the cost of a taxi there and back is more than £30, so times that by three or five days a week, and that is costly and for some, unaffordable. However, apart from the financial implications, the Daisy Bus is special - a club with friendly drivers and a calm, safe environment, essential for seriously ill patients.

The service was halted by the charity that backed it in August, but a local IOW group has kept the service going and has become a CIC to raise funds to buy a dedicated minibus, now named The Daisy Ring Bus.

It was a huge lifeline for us and for many of the others whom we met in the six months of Scarlett's treatment, and it's a vital service for those who need safe transport to and from hospital.

I'll be walking 120km from Lucca to Siena in Italy with my walking buddy Lisa from the 18th to the 23rd of October along the pilgrim way, and I thought this was a great opportunity to raise some funds for what is a great cause and vital for the Island. So if you can spare a pound or two, we'd be very grateful.
