Story
Thank you for taking the time to read this. My name is Imogen, and I am trying to raise money for a person in my extended family who is very much in need of help.
Amber (not her real name) is 18 years old and in the last year her life has been turned upside down. She recently went through the sheer hell that is a rape trial, and unfortunately her attacker was found not guilty. She knew as well as every other woman who has endured assault that he was unlikely to be found guilty, but she was fearless enough to try to seek justice, despite the anxiety and stress it caused her. Due to the trauma she was unable to continue with her studies or her employment, and her relationship with her mother was under such pressure that she ended up having to move in with her father, who her mother split with years ago due to his sustained abuse.
Very shortly after this, her father beat his new wife whilst Amber was in the house with her younger brother. Amber has now been made homeless due to this, and she has been spending her time sofa-surfing, attending job interviews, supporting her father's wife to find refuge, all whilst dealing with the trauma of everything she has been through herself.
This fearless young woman is made of steel, but she needs our help.
I am fundraising so that she will be able to get herself a secure home of her own, so that she can start getting her life back together. She will need enough money for a deposit (usually a month or 6 weeks worth of rent), her first month's rent, agency fees, and some basic furniture items to set her up. In the area of London that Amber is based, rooms cost anything from £650-£850 a month, and apartments even more. It is crucially important that she is able to stay near her friends and support networks, so leaving London for cheaper accommodation is not an option.
Anything you have to give will help, and if you are unable to give please share this among your networks - it will help so much! Any surplus donations will allow Amber to have a little of the breathing room she desperately needs while she's trying to recover from everything that's happened to her over the past year.
Amber is extremely driven, intelligent and brave; I have no doubt that a little financial support will be enough for her to be able to turn this around. We are supporting her as much as we can but unfortunately the financial support she needs is beyond our means. Thank you so much in advance for your support.

6 years agoHello all! we have some amazing news! Despite her attacker being found not guilty, she has found out today that she has been awarded some compensation from the CPS. This is just fantastic and we are all thrilled that she will be able to rebuild her life now. The money won’t come through for a while so I will be closing the fundraiser today and transferring the funds to her to get her through the waiting period. Thank you all SO much for your solidarity and support - it means the world to her and to all of us! X x x x x
