Many of you know I work as a nurse and truly love helping people. I want to extend my passion for compassion (cheesy line) to countries less fortunate than ourselves who do not have what we would consider basic human rights and living conditions.

I am planning to travel to Borneo and Cambodia in 2018 to complete three months of unpaid volunteer work, helping local communities in need. The money raised will help a great deal in providing equipment for the project, foodl and accommodation costs (money raised goes directly to the volunteer organisation). Whilst there I will be involved in:

Clean water provision for communities- digging wells and installing pumps and filtration systems.

Constructing houses- helping local tradesmen build houses using sustainable materials that are able to withstand all weather conditions for families.

Community infrastructure- building bridges and roads so that people can cross rivers safely and children can walk safely to school.

Obviously taking three months leave from work is costly, but I am funding my home and travel expenses myself. The money raised is purely going towards funding my volunteer work. Over the next year I will aim to do different events such as sponsored runs (I'm also trying to get my fitness levels up for this trip), bake sales (my baking is poor but eating a dry cake for charity isn't so bad) and the like.

If any of my talented friends would like to bake/paint/knit/create anything on my behalf to sell and raise funds that would also be greatly appreciated!

I know my target is a large amount but this does not cover all the costs required for me to go on this experience, I am also saving £1000 myself (not including the money I will be spending on travel essentials and living expenses).

Please give anything you can and share with friends/colleagues. Even the smallest of amounts would mean so much to me!
