Story
Our beautiful daughter Amelia Grace Cooke was due on 29th August 2022. In the early hours of Thursday 25th August we attended Jessops Maternity Hospital with reduced movements. Our world was turned upside down and our hearts were broken when we were told by the consultant that they couldn't find her heartbeat and that she had passed away.
Following the devastating news and after 26 hours of labour Amelia Grace was born sleeping on Friday 26th August at 4.19pm, 39weeks 4days old and weighing 6lbs 10.5oz. She has her Daddy’s long legs and wavy hair, lots of it! She has her Mummy’s button nose, lips, fingers and toes. We are so proud of her and so honoured to be her Mummy and Daddy.
The midwives and staff showed great care and skill during the most difficult of times. Following Amelia's stillbirth we have received incredible support from the bereavement team at Jessops. They have ensured we could create memories with Amelia, spend time with her at Rose Cottage and helped us navigate challenges we never thought we would have to face as new parents.
We would like to raise awareness of stillbirth with donations in Amelia's memory to support two charities that have helped us during the worst days of our lives. These are Rose Cottage bereavement suite at Sheffield Hospitals Charity and SANDS (Stillbirth and neonatal death charity). Family flowers only at Amelia's funeral.
Rose Cottage is the bereavement suite at Jessops Maternity Hospital. It provides a space for parents and families to spend time with their babies following loss. We have found great comfort in spending time with Amelia here and have made memories we will treasure forever.
SANDS is the leading stillbirth and neonatal death charity in the UK. Sands exists to reduce the number of babies dying and to ensure that anyone affected by the death of a baby receives the best possible care and support for as long as they need it.
