Story

Each year, thousands of people travel to Lourdes France following the apparition of Saint Bernadette in 1858, during which the virgin Mary told her to bathe and drink in the Holy waters there. Many come in search of a miracle, the hope that they may be delivered from sin, and also cured from illness and disability. It is a long, physically challenging pilgrimage, and many sick or challenged individuals feel they may not be able to participate due to their disabilities. This is why awareness is constantly growing of the importance of volunteer helpers present at the pilgrimage, working alongside the doctors and nurses to help make the experience of those sick searching spiritual help as easy and carefree as possible. A group of my friends and I are collecting money in order to travel out there over summer to play a part in this event and help make the occasion as special as possible for the pilgrims in need of assistance, both physically helping them to travel around and participate in the cleansing of the water baths but also keeping them company and making their trip as enjoyable and memorable as possible. I will be running a triathlon at the end of the month to aid in the rasing of the money we need.
