Story
When my daughter Amelia was recently in hospital for two weeks, I experienced the emotional and financial strain first hand. I had to buy food, clothes, pay for petrol, tolls, and parking – all while trying to be fully present for her.
There was nowhere to turn for fast, emergency help. The charities that exist have great intentions, but the process takes too long. Forms, calls, waiting… By the time help arrives, the crisis has passed.
So I’m starting a new charity called Amelia’s Light to change that.
The first £2,500 will go directly towards helping 10 families by providing same-day payments of £200 when they’re in hospital with their child for more than 5 days. The first £500 will be used to help launch the charity/campaign. We will look to purchase marketing materials, like printed posters. We will also ensure that all our trustees and volunteers have an up-to-date DBS check.
It’s about showing up with compassion, speed, and trust – because when your child is unwell, you shouldn’t have to worry about whether you can afford a hot meal or a journey home.
This is just the beginning – and I’d love your help to get it off the ground.
