I've raised £1000 to help fund a new garden for our residents at Amherst Court.

Staff, family and friends at Amherst Court will be walking 50 miles along the Saxon Shore Way throughout the summer to fund a new garden for our residents!
More about us: At Amherst Court we are caring for people living with dementia, and we want to create a meaningful outdoor space for them to enjoy all year round. Research shows that nearly a third of people with dementia go outside less than once a week, yet spending time outside is also believed to slow down the rate of cognitive decline - so a garden that reflects the needs of our residents is crucial for their quality of life. Ideas for the garden range from sensory areas, vegetable patches, to a workshop shed or a shop and tea room that our residents can visit to buy their own newspaper or pop out for a coffee. To what extent we can make these ideas a reality relies solely on how much money we raise this summer - so we really need your support.
More about our route: The Saxon Shore Way is a long distance path that traces the South East coast as it was in Roman times. It starts in Gravesend and finishes 163 miles later in Hastings. We have chosen the route as it passes through many areas of significance for our residents, most of whom have spent their lives living, working and holidaying in Kent. We will begin our 50 miles in Medway as we are a Medway care home, through the seaside towns of Kent, and our last day will finish at the White Cliffs of Dover.
We will be walking on three days and each day will have a theme:
Saturday June 15th - Nautical
Wednesday June 26th - Armed Forces Day
Friday July 5th - Pride
We will also be needing volunteers on the walking days for various jobs, so please get in touch if you'd like to lend us your time too.
Thank you from all of us at Amherst for taking the time to donate - and we'll keep you updated with our progress...
Bye for now!
