Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Fundraising for Boubacar
Three years ago, Charlie saw an advert for World Vision and asked me if we could help a child long-term. Together we found a boy from Senegal in need of sponsorship – his name is Boubacar and he will be celebrating his 12th birthday in June. We write to one another throughout the year, receive photos and hear how he's beginning to enjoy and benefit from all the things we take for granted.
Since 2015, our monthly support has given Boubacar the opportunity to start school and improve his health and wellbeing. In the past year, our continued help, along with many other World Vision sponsors, has provided his village with some of the following:
- Toilets installed in his school so the children don't have long walks back home during the day
- A playground so Boubacar and his friends can simply enjoy being children
- 17 instructors received training to educate more children
- Education in Children's Rights - changing attitudes for the better towards harmful traditional practices
Half of the money I'm hoping to raise will go directly to Boubacar, his parents and four siblings to improve their standard of living. The other half will be used by World Vision for the rest of the children in his village of Patiana. World Vision will be leaving their community soon in order to help others in need, which prompted my decision to raise money now.
In order to do this, I will be climbing the National 3 Peaks in 24 hours on 2nd June 2018 (I hope!). Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden are a combined vertical ascent of 3,000m (or 26 miles horizontal distance) and the drive between mountains is 450 miles. I'm therefore going to require some support, sponsorship and motivation to get me up those mountains please!!
Any donations to help me reach my target would be gratefully received, no matter how small. World Vision have provided me with the following info as a guide to how this money could help:
£9 could by a school bag and equipment for a child
£16 could buy books for an after school club
£18 could buy chickens for Boubacar's family to farm
£20-25 could help train more village health workers or buy a mini-library for a school
You can also watch this short 2 minute video to find out about World Vision's approach to achieving sustainable solutions to poverty and why I chose to support them.
Thank you to everyone in advance :) x
