Story

A Mile a Day in May is a collaboration between Clwyd Alyn Women's aid and our sister charities working to end violence against women and girls in Wales. Choose to walk, wheel, run, cycle, swim or even hop your way through the challenge for Clwyd Alyn Women's aid. A Mile a Day in May, your own way. Like many charities, we are struggling to survive in this challenging financial climate. In working together by sharing this challenge and our resources, our collective ability to raise funds and awareness is boosted during this tough time. We need your support more than ever. Please support Clwyd Alyn Women's aid and take part in this challenge, to help achieve a change that lasts. No-one should face any form of violence against women, and we need strong and sustainable services to have any chance of making it stop.

Clwyd Alyn Women’s Aid (CAWA) is a key part of Clwyd Alyn’s Supported Living offer, CAWA is confidential service, that promotes the values of hope, kindness, and trust, for individuals who have been subjected to domestic abuse. CAWA aims to improve and enhance lives of survivors, by responding to the needs, wants and wishes by providing informed, confidential person-centred, trauma informed, emotional and practical specialist support addressing inequality and supporting vulnerable people within our communities.

The service currently offers:

• Professional short-term counselling with a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy registered counsellor (BACP)• Access to a Specialist Mental Health Domestic Abuse officer • Children and Young People’s service (CYP) • Crisis intervention support • Outreach and Community Support •Immediate Triage • Floating support• Communal and self-contained refuge safe house provisions• A drop-in service• Signposting to external specialist services • Out of hours emergency on call service• Recovery programmes including Freedom Programme, STAR, Own My Life, DART, Space and Hope2recovery.

For the year ending March 2024, the below data highlights key figures CAWA have delivered in support services across the year to those affected by domestic abuse:

39 individuals sought protection through Refuge's safe house provisions.

407 individuals accessed outreach and community support services.

303 children and young people benefited from specialist domestic abuse support programs.
