We are raising money for my wonderful, 5 year old son, Romayne. He became ill over the summer of 2016. Doctors explained to us that he has a Craniopharyngioma tumour; a rare tumour found in the brain.
Romayne had cysts grow on his tumour which led to a restriction in the flow of liquids around his brain and suffered serious side effects. He remained very brave and faced two operations within two weeks; the first to drain some of the cysts and the second to remove part of the tumour. Romayne’s tumour is located in a very delicate part of the brain which is extremely difficult to operate on as it is located near the pituitary gland. Operations of this kind carry risks and can have effects in later life.
Romayne now needs Proton Beam Therapy in order to shrink the remaining parts of the tumour. This therapy isn’t currently available in the UK and so we will have to travel to the USA for treatment in early 2017.
The operations and on-going treatment so far on this journey have left Romayne with some difficult side effects. With the hope of this treatment in the USA we are battling on, but there is still a long way to go.
The money raised will be used for Romayne’s ongoing after care as he recovers from his first two operations and expenses as the family travel to the USA during treatment. Thank you for taking time to read our story.
