Story

Amin Abdullah was a nurse who was born in Malaysia, of Indian-Sri Lankan origin parents, and who came to the UK in 2003. In 2014, Amin fulfilled his dreams by training to be a nurse. He trained at Imperial College NHS Trust (Charing Cross Hospital, London). In February 2016, after he was dismissed for the way he supported a colleague at work, he committed suicide by burning himself to death in the grounds of Kensington Palace, London. Amin Abdullah suffered terrible distress in the months before he committed suicide.

His full 20 mins story, with pictures and music, can be seen here....

A Trailer, 5 mins video, can be viewed here –

We aim to –

1. Fund over five years an annual Amin Abdullah award, worth £1000, to reward nurses who show both clinical excellence and compassion towards their colleagues.

2. Support healthcare staff or their families in distress or hardship for whatever reason, whether it be bereavement, unfair dismissal, injury, illness, etc. This would be in the form of one-off grants.

3. Fund any further costs in our search for justice, accountability and changes to the NHS system to prevent such tragedies as that of Amin happening again in the future to other healthcare staff.

The fund will be administered by a panel of trustees. Background information related to our campaign is available at www.abetternhs.com
