Story
Our beautiful, brave mum started to feel poorly in November 2015. Tired, run down and struggling to get up for work in the mornings… who doesn't have that feeling?!
Weeks later our world came crashing down; On December 23rd 2015 we were faced with the worst news. Mum has stage 4 Lung Cancer and secondary Bone Cancer.
Numb, disbelief, anger, frightened - there are no words to explain how we felt as a family.
Our mum doesn’t smoke. She is an extremely fit and healthy 53 year old woman.
HOW CAN THIS BE HAPPENING?
I always thought the term rollercoaster was a cliché, but it isn't. It is the only way to describe exactly how this feels. Everything is no longer in your control, you are swept along and just have to go with it.
Mum had a biopsy and luckily the type of cancer mum was diagnosed with, meant she was able to take a chemo tablet, which gave her very little issues in the way of side effects.
Just before Christmas this year we were given an almighty blow that the tablet is no longer working or keeping the cancer under control and as such new spots have appeared on both lungs on the latest CT scans.
Our mum despite this horrendous disease is by far the biggest inspiration going. She still maintains a normal life - walking our dogs daily, enjoying Yoga and the gym. You wouldn't even know she is poorly!
We have been doing extensive research into mums disease and truly believe that the treatment offered in Germany could really make the difference for our mum. This money will start the test she needs and allow the first month of treatment to begin.
We are an extremely strong family and we will continue to remain positive and optimistic for the future. We can’t thank our family and friends for all of their help so far.
Please keep strong with us – we know it’s a battle... but one we will face head on and together!
Even if you can't donate, please help spread our mum’s story so we can raise awareness of this horrendous disease.
